the sweet frodo commodore 64 emulator for palmOS was on slashdot. coolness indeed. the screenshot page brought back some memories of some great c64 games i used to LOVE. the last one on the left is Green Beret, which was nigh impossible. there's another one we had, second from the top on the left, that i can't remember the name of. but it also made me remember a bunch of other sweet games:

  • Impossible Mission - i'd kill to play through this one again now that i have a slightly more functional brain than i did when i was eight. i'd rip this game apart. at the time, i thought it was the hardest thing i'd ever seen - and it probably still is. i wonder if anyone ever beat it.
  • Wizard Of Wor - awesome pac-man like game where you go through a maze and blow up enemies.
  • Ghostbusters - MAN I LOVED THIS GAME. first game where you bought new equipment w/money you earned. hard as crap to get through the jumping marshmallow man at the end. i loved sucking up ghosts w/the ghost vacuum on the road tho.
  • Jumpman - AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. creative, fun, excellent problem solving. jumpman jr blew tho.
  • Beamrider - very good sound effects, although pretty tough. you moved down this 3D grid and shot discs and missiles at oncoming enemies.
  • Aztec Challenge - they threw spears at you as you ran? ridiculous.
  • Batman - a crappy batman game, but still a batman game. really frickin hard.
  • Montezuma's Revenge - another really fun, inventive game. the best was jumping off a platform that was too high cuz you'd land on your head and your legs would twitch. also made me scared of snakes that just sat there and didn't move,
  • Super Mario Bros. - someone hacked a game called Giana Sisters and put mario-esque sprites in there. i wasn't fooled. lame.
  • Bruce Lee - another awesome side-scroller, first real fighting game i ever played. your character was like four pixels high, but you could still punch and kick. i got lost really easily in that game. whoa, some guy made a PC port. get it here: brucelee.exe.
  • Summer Games - olympics-esque game, i LOVED the high dive for some reason, making people land in terrible positions in the water was hilarious.
  • Zaxxon/Zaxxon 2 - side-scrolling arcade shooter. almost three dimensional - the perspective made it harder to figure out how to get through the levels. fun game tho.
  • River Raid - my favorite overhead flying game of all time.
  • Spy Hunter - you cannot BEAT this game for intensity. you get driving really really fast and you always get jacked by that stupid frickin car you couldn't shoot and you had to ram. and i didn't figure out how to use the extra items (smokescreen, oil slicks, etc) until like a year after i got it.
  • Transformers - this game sucked hard. period. what an insult to the name.
  • Moon Patrol - great music in this game, although repetitive. you got 64k of RAM to work with tho, so what do you do :)
  • Paperboy - another game that got old in eleven seconds. for some reason an RC car killed you. and tires chased you. and then, Death. yeah.
  • Operation Wolf - WHAT AN IDEA. i remember how revolutionary this game was when i first played it - a first-person shooting game, yeah it went sideways, but i couldn't stop playing it.
  • Blue Max - sweet flying game, zaxxon-like perspective, really hard.
  • Beach Head - another one of those games that, at the time, made no sense at all to me.

i could go on forever. oh wait i already did. heh. now i think im gonna fire up an emulator and show Impossible Mission who's the gangsta mack.

stay awhile......... STAY FOREVER!!!!
