we're grabbing this post's title from buffett's cheeseburger in paradise. because, ironically, right now i'm eating a cheeseburger. in paradise. otherwise known as nitro, west virginia. in a tudor's biscuit world, which renee used to think was paradise i'm not sure why it changed. her and her friends have this really strange obsession with this place, but they used to talk about it all the time. we stopped on the way down to rockbridge on friday here for dinner, and i noticed on the way out that they had a wireless hotspot here. at a fast food joint called biscuit world, in the middle of nowhere in west virginia. people, this is what i LOVE about technology. so on the way back (now) i made renee stop back at the same one so i could try it out. naturally none of the employees had any clue how i got onto it, they just knew that it was this flashing box plugged into the cable tv and there were a few fliers up about it.

anyway. so it's monday, and i'm sitting here enjoying my burger, while renee mocks me and enjoys her mashed potatoes. if you've been to rockbridge on a camp trip ever, you probably remember stopping at a mcdonalds down the street here on the way, across the street from balzout's world headquarters, which is apparently an extreme sports gear manufacturer. they have an enormous 'have a hardcore day' sign painted on the side of their building. you wonder about the people who live in the area, if they frequent the biscuit world a lot. i never think of any of the nati's highway exits as simply midpoints on a road trip. i wonder if the nitro-ites think of their town as significant, the center of their universe like i think of the nati as.

anyway. the weekend. clearly it was a blast, and i'll spend more time later talking about the whole proposal thing. let me say thanks, though, to all of you who knew and kept it quiet for months. she was completely surprised. you're all amazing friends. i also learned a lot, had some surprisingly quality time with some other guys, and got some reading done... i dug into the weight of glory a bit and REALLY like it. naturally a few things came up that linked well with the other things i learned this weekend... kinda like hypertext in reality. God does things like that. it's cool.

renee's sitting next to me, wanting to read what i've written. i guess we should get moving, although i want to use my 3 hours' worth of time on the wireless, i long to get home more than to sit here and be a geek and frighten the natives. and i really, really don't want to work on our project, because although i know the work we do today will be pretty simple, it's still kind of intimidating, with the pile of stuff we have to do.

anyway. i think we're going to leave the world of biscuits. it's a small world of biscuits. you'd think that biscuits being as significant as they are, their world would be bigger, with more gravity that drew in the other side items' worlds. BTW, thanks to tony and bragg, i now get coleslaw where it's available. i enjoy it, which i swore i'd never do, but if florida had one significant impact on my life, it was that i now eat the slaw. and appreciate good slaw. and dislike bad slaw. i've learned the difference. see, people can change.
