scientia est potentia?

this chick thinks the US is becoming increasingly like the roman empire. geez. i don't like talking politics, mainly because it's largely futile to attempt to change another person's political beliefs - and because the purpose of a meaningful dialogue is always to learn something, even from those you disagree with - but i never seem to pick anything up, or teach anyone anything, from arguing about politics, government, foreign policy, etc. it does more harm than good to relationships. i'll let other people do that. there seem to be better things to do than argue over something like that.

anyway, i'm not going to get into the overwhelming tide of negative press about the current administration that has pushed the left-wing conspiracy theorists out into the open like a ketchup packet. the media's made up of businesses, and their job is to make money, and they know they can do it by creating conflict and controversy, and they use the appearance of a horrible rift in the public vs. the evil government to do so. of course, being surrounded by nothing but this type of press makes everyone - even young kids who haven't experienced enough of life to know what politics are - feel like they need to decry our vicious president and his actions. and this comes from me, who thought he knew everything about what was wrong with the government when he was in high school. i did the same thing and can see how foolish my presumptions were. the fact is, every government will always be messed up and evil because a lot, if not most, of the people that make it up are selfish and desire power and control. every administration EVER has been that way, and it always will be, and it's foolish to think otherwise.

geez, i'm doing it again. ok. well here's the point. reading that blog above made me realize - what will the world be like when the US is no longer around? what would bring us down, and how? it will probably happen, because it's happened to every major superpower in human history. will a war devastate the earth, bringing chaos and anarchy that settles into global unity, like Star Trek history (and hundreds of other sci-fi storylines, i'm sure) suggests? will corporations dominate the earth, like in William Gibson's books? who will the new superpower be? cuz there WILL be one - it's just how things are. or maybe a few that fight amongst each other. but what if the downfall of the US happens in our lifetime, and we experience it? wacky.
