dirty deeds... and the dunderchief

i got a quad laser, it'll amaze ya

writing this from the redhat linux derivative fedora core 1, which i installed on my old laptop tonight to see how it'd work.

my view of the state of desktop linux - still not windows-easy. things that should be quick and painless (read: windows xp will do it) didn't happen, even here. sound still doesn't work. wireless took wayyyyyy too long to get active. things are just slow in general, slower than windows (!!!!!).

i'm not complaining, mind you, it's free and the look and feel of Gnome and redhat's bluecurve theme are sweet. the install was pretty easy, it was the first time i didn't do a custom install and just let it do the 'laptop' install and pick all the packages for me. and i told myself i wouldn't use any shortcuts during setup - i'd just use the GUI tools to config everything (i.e. no terminal/text editing) cuz i'd never done it.... and it wasn't too bad.

anyway. this'll be a fun toy for the next 12 hours or so.. :) :) :)
