dirty deeds... and the dunderchief

is it dark where you are? have the people changed?

have you been reading up on batman begins? i'm not really sure what to think yet. the cast looks pretty nice for the most part so far. christian bale as the dark knight, well, i just can't think of him as anything else besides the guy from american psycho. i know renee is the same way, except swap out the serial killer with newsies. argh. :) but then you got gary frickin oldman as gordon, michael caine as alfred (hmm, not sure about that one), the excellent ken watanabe (from the last samurai) as rahs al guhl... morgan freeman, katie holmes, rutger hauer (from blade runner), liam neeson... the dude from 28 days later as the scarecrow.. the cast is impressive, but look what happened last time they had an "impressive" cast. although it was a high-list class, not an appropriate cast. and the movie was written by a six year old, it seems.

plus then there's chris nolan at the helm, who did memento and insomnia, two very, very good thrillers. i dig that idea.

i kinda have a problem w/the new batmobile though, but maybe i'll grow to like it. it's too mad max for me.

then there's the soundtrack. danny elfman owned the first two batman scores, they fit perfectly with tim burton's amazingly creepy films. then U2 and Seal on the third movie (my fave U2 song ever, btw), and Smashing Pumpkins on the fourth (their song, The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning is where the title quote is from). that track matched up pretty well with the whole dark/gothic batman theme. you could have used that song for the first movie. plus that's just the Pumpkins, they belonged doing songs like that.

which is why i propose that warner bros. gets AFI to do the theme / big first single for batman 5. think how PERFECT that would be. those guys are more popular now, and they fit that whole dark feel to a T. plus they're one of my favorite bands. don't give it to like drowning pool or disturbed or someone like that. keep it in the family. of cool bands. :)
