i suppose i'll show

sitting in starbucks on campus, drinking my beverage, enjoying my bagel, listening to the generic-brand jazz music they pipe into every one of these places. they have a big roomy upstairs area that's virtually empty, quite peaceful, and has an excellent wireless signal. got an hour til my next class. i think this quarter is going to be a billion group projects, which i don't mind, but always ends up being awkward and time-consuming. my first class, the international business capstone (think of it like a doctoral thesis for undergrads) only meets like five times this quarter. which means, i dont have to get up at 8 mondays/wednesdays every week. jeah.

PA today is mocking what most hardcore star wars fanboys are mocking about the changes lucas put into the trilogy. after a good amount of ponderation on the subject (because it's important enough a topic to demand lots of processing time) i've decided, screw em. they're wrong. it's lucas' artwork, his baby. he has no responsibility to anyone to do anything but what he wants. i think watching empire of dreams nailed it for me - in 1975 lucas had a vision in his head for this movie, but the reality of available technology was like eight time-zones behind his imagination. that's frickin inspiring. now he can finish it properly. if da vinci created the mona lisa with crayon because that's all they had available, and then 20 years later paint became available and he redid it, would people flip out because it's 'not the original mona lisa'? sure, it got acclaim, and he should leave it alone because it's what people wanted.... bull. in the end, art is not about acclaim, about what makes everybody enjoy it. art is about self-expression with zero to little responsibility to the public. the prophet wayne campbell said it best - 'led zeppelin didn't write tunes that everybody liked.'

ahh. louis armstrong. this is REAL music.
