dirty deeds... and the dunderchief

all at once, the music stopped, the feeling ran away

good news: the clutch on my car isn't broken, it was just a leak of some fluid, fairly easy to fix

bad news: the transmission is getting close to death.

i have $4k left to pay on this car. new transmission will apparently be $1200. it has 145k miles on it. how long can a honda really go? i can't pay the rest of it off yet, and if i sold it in present condition i'd probably get about $2k at most, maybe a little more after i fixed the transmission. that leaves nothing for a down payment on a new one. crunch those numbers... and looks like i'm keeping her for a while longer. fix the transmission, it lasts another year, and i sell it next september when it's paid off and start looking again.

years ago when i was fighting with the death corsica (i spent four times as much fixing that thing in a third of the time) i remember thinking how nice it'd be to exist without a car. how i hate the trouble owning it causes me. i haven't had that feeling for years, since i got this one, and i just had it again. i didn't miss it at all.

argh. time to rev the budgeting engine and see how to work this one...

hey, once nice thing about not leading anymore come june is a significant reduction in the future mileage on my car :)
