so if anyone wants to fly me to Seattle on Feb. 18th... this radio station up there, KROCK 96.5 is putting on a tsunami benefit show... WITH ALICE IN CHAINS. jerry, mike and sean are playing together again.. i wonder if they'll get anyone to sing for layne staley (who OD'd in 2002). frickin chris cornell would OWN that.
i saw jerry cantrell open for metallica during their 'reload' tour, it was right after his first solo album boggy depot came out. he played a couple AIC tracks, no excuses and got me wrong and sludge factory.. those few songs were better than the metallica show. i absolutely loved AIC, they're one of the most dynamic, unpredictable rock bands to ever play. who would figure they'd drop a vicious metal album like facelift and then turn around and release sap, a gentle, soulful collection of five brilliant songs that had barely any distortion and GOSPEL singers?
and then, jar of flies, my favorite CD of all time... IMHO the pinnacle of what a rock album should be - diverse and yet consistent, no filler but long enough to maintain your interest and commit you to listening to the whole thing front-to-back, makes you cry and laugh and smile and get pissed and defiant and sleepy...
enough of that nostalgia. anyway. here's to AIC getting back together permanently, and dumping some more sweet stuff on us..
