cause i needed one
renee's early birthday present to me was tix to the blue man group down at us bank last night. completely exceeded my expectations - i went in expecting some interesting electronica and lots of makeup... what we saw was a captivating musical / visual performance by a bunch of incredibly creative artists. equal parts comedy, circus, magic, light show, videography and industrial / electronic music, appropriate for an audience ranging from 7 to 70 years old.
tracy bonham (remember her?) opened up with a quick 20 minute set that included clever covers of beyonce's crazy in love and zep's black dog. not too bad - made me consider picking up an album - got a great voice, when she's not screaming.
blue man's gimmick for the show was a mock-infomercial about how to put on a good rock concert. these guys definitely know how to laugh and not take themselves or rock & roll too seriously. musically they should try hard to avoid lyrics in their songs - while providing a good excuse to have guest singers (the album has gavin rossdale and dave matthews) they're a bit awkward and detract from the beautiful effects and brilliant percussion. they stole some set pieces from trent reznor, too, but used them even more effectively.
i'm sold. i will be at every show they put on in cincinnati from now on - as they're different experiences every time.
you should have dressed like one of the band members.
shave your head, paint yourself blue and wear some tight blue spandex.
i'm gettin' all hot just thinking about it.
We saw them a while ago. I too was surprised how much I liked it.
Thanks for the pictures J, I really feel like I'm there...
Yea man...you really captured the experience with crystal resolution.
yeah reznor
ha, and those were the good pictures of the night
