dirty deeds... and the dunderchief

a life in knots that I don't untie

um... so i was sort of wrong about i, robot. yeah, it was really good. clearly a summer action flick but actually stayed somewhat faithful to the heart of asimov's stories about robotics.

a lot of those stories considered the idea of keeping humanity safe from the potential dangers of trusting robots with significant roles in society. they examined the three rules asimov created to govern robot behavior, their imperfections, and all of the ethics and issues involved. they were really interesting, intelligent situations, with lots of logical problem solving and really interesting characters.

i, robot took those concepts and turned them into a funny, kind of goofy, well-casted and well-directed action movie. it stole some ideas from a handful of asimov's stories and merged them into one uber-story that covered a few of the big issues. remember how peter jackson took the lord of the rings stories and modified them to fit into movie form? well this is an extremely extreme version of that. it actually made me think 'well at least jackson didn't do THIS to tolkien's work...'

but in spite, it was an enjoyable movie. it didn't do asimov's worlds total justice.. kinda just a little sliver of justice.
