i've been following flash fiction site 365 tomorrows since last year. they recently completed their first cycle - a story a day for an entire year, and started accepting reader stories. i've had about a dozen ideas floating in my head since i started reading this site, and since my songwriting has produced plenty of derivative crap, i figured i'd switch to something else for a while. so i submitted my first one, disconnected, last night.

i had a little difficulty squeezing it into 500 words, and sadly i had to cut the ending shorter than i wanted, but i was happy with the result. i'm not gonna post it until i hear whether or not it was accepted. the creators say that flash fiction is the future, and while i seriously doubt the short story or the novel are going extinct, it is a compelling medium.

anyway, there have been some funny, creepy, haunting, and inspiring stories up there in the last year, and if you're a sci-fi fan you'll probably enjoy a few.
