J, youi should check out OnTheIssues.org and do the VoteMatch quiz (http://www.speakout.com/VoteMatch/senate2006.asp?quiz=2008). It'll tell you how you match up with all the candidates.

Yeah, I heart Huckabees too. Whoever he is. Here's why I don't vote...I only agree with 64% of what he does, so that means that the other 36% of the time I won't agree with what he's doing. And if any of that 36% is major stuff, then I'll be pissed off that I voted for him. Until I agree 100% with someone, I can't bring myself to vote for a person. But I will continue to vote of issues and what-not.

I have to say that am leaning liberal right now. Mavbe it is my passion for education, maybe it is my frustration with Big Business, I don't know, but my top two candidates are currently democrats.

I do not understand why people are so loyal to parties when men of character are much more important than parties.

Yes I'm anti-abortion, but I would rather have a well educated country that will eventually recogize the impact abortion has on our nation and ban it based on logical thought- Not emotion. I don't want to rock the boat, but the Republican party has failed at every attempt to offer one intelligent thought on the educational system. Not that Democrats have done much better, but at least they care about the education of children from single mothers and low-income families in this country.

However I do believe in smaller government and I think that socialism will destroy our healthcare system. As lazy as our country is currently could you imagine how quickly our advances would cease to exist if there was little or no profit in the healthcare system? Who has the right answers? I am yet to meet or believe in man that has any real answers.

Darren Glass

I guess I am currently kind of Federalist.

Darren I feel you on the party thing. I hate when people label themselves! I would never carry around a label of some party, because you are automatically tied to all of their beliefs.

And you have met me and you can believe me because I have all the answers!

I say I'm rebublican because that is what i always end up leaning the most towards. I can't vote someone in office if they belive in Choice of abortion. I belive in that stronger now that I have two kids and have lost 4. So anyone who doesn't match with my belifes on that matter that is running for office... i can not support to run our country..whats next letting parents shoot their kids and because it's there choice..not get in trouble for it...same thing

Jeri,

I agree that abortion is a huge issue, however it is such a small part of the big picture. For example you might vote for a person that is anti-abortion, but believes in huge tax breaks for the wealthy. On the surface that means very little, but in the long term that means less government funding for the poor, this tends to increase the abortion rate.

Or maybe he/she wants an unrestricted death penalty. That means 1 out of every 9 men killed by the death penalty are probably innocent of their "crime." Texas is currently pushing for this kind of penalty. Is this really any better than abortion?

I agree that we must stick to our convictions on topics we hold dear to our heart, but we must also be responsible to better understand what the likely overall outcome looks like from each representative.

Agree? Disagree? Discuss.

I agree with you..however the topics i think are more important...can be different then what you think are more important. Just a difference of oppinion. Do I think the weathy should get tax break...of course not...but sorry ...for me ...abortion is a bigger priority...seeing as it's a human beings life. But that's just me... i respect your veiw...it's just not how i feel. And that's ok :o)

Apparently I'm a moderate liberal populist. Ron Paul was my highest, and I have to say I agree with a fair amount of his views, except for his energy policies.

Jeri, I'm not a republican, and I like you!

Jeri and everyone else,

I think I wasn't clear with what I was saying. My point, to be more direct, was that those who claim to be anti-abortion in many ways are the very people causing the rates to increase.

The truth is, in politics, rarely should we only listen to a man's words. Rather, we should look at their prior actions.

The first man that doesn't owe money to some special interest group or investor will be the man I vote for. No matter who any of us vote for someone has that candidate in their back pocket. Man I hate politics!!!

Jeri: As far as abortion goes:
You have to understand that it is very unlikely that anyone on this blog is more anti-abortion than myself. After all, I married a woman who was adopted. I have no idea where I would be without her and without the adoption process. Her biological mother could have easily aborted her, but she made an informed decision based on the facts. I am grateful for her decision.

Darren, it sounds like you're struggling with the same dynamic I am. I am pro-life, but I'm consistently pro-life. I'm pro the life of African children dying of AIDS. I'm pro the life of poor American children who are suffering because we don't have universal health care. I'm pro the life of Iraqi children who are suffering because we have a war monger for a President. I'm pro the life of my son who I want to grow up in a world that hasn't had all of God's creation striped mined and smogged into a desert. When I look at those issues, Obama and his kin sound pretty good. How to I balance those lives and the lives of children in the womb? Not only that, but those things I just mentioned can be fixed with political will and legislation. If abortion was illegal, there'd still be plenty of illegal ones like there were before Roe v Wade. I wish I had an easy answer.

Well said Artie! I guess this is our lot in life. A desire to love those who are in distress without any real ability to change their circumstances. Sure we could do missions work and aid a few hundred, but until we have any real authority we are stuck with pray and hope. Which I admit is a great example of how poor my faith is- "we are stuck with pray." The truth is if I actually believed whole-heartedly something might change. Augh!!! I look forward to the day when I no longer have to suffer from battling these spiritual vs. human conflicts.
