dirty deeds... and the dunderchief

tonight your beauty burns into my memory

i got my dad mark knopfler's new(er) disc shangri-la for xmas. i'd heard him a bit on xmcafe and really enjoyed it, and then on prairie home companion...

so this weekend i ripped it and this morning i popped it in at work.

it's honestly all i can do to concentrate on what i'm doing - this is easily one of the most beautiful, solemn pieces of music i've ever listened to. i'm only six songs in. knopfler (who you may remember from dire straits) doesn't sing in a wide vocal spectrum or anything, but singing in that little window he manages to sound morose and loving and happy and cynical and wise and mournful and lost in memory... the production is incredible too, a perfect balance of organ, drums, bluesy electric and light acoustic.

steve, you'd love this disc. it's totally you.

i just wanna sit in a big chair and kick up my feet and LISTEN. i'm almost doing that here, with my laptop actually on my lap, trying to force myself to do database maintenance. i keep getting lost. i love it.

listening to: mark knopfler - 5:15 am
