truth is i don't stand a chance

i sold the DS today to gamestop. it dawned on me that if i have a choice between playing something on that, and playing tetris on my phone, i often choose the russian. which, hey, i clearly don't need that machine any more. sorry nintendo. i still have my trusty GBA and all the games i'll ever need for it (street fighter alpha 3 and SMB3).

i did get a 1/2GB ipod shuffle with the proceeds. the verdict's still out on it though, and the return policy is 30 days no matter what. so far it's a *** (out of *****). plays music, lots of battery life, tiny, simple interface. i got it mainly for the gym, and last night's foray was just as expected. i have plenty of playlists already from the older brother, so adapting them to the shuffle was easy.

it isn't as smart, though - you can't shut it off and start again from the proverbial 'top' of the playlist - once you start playing it, you can't reset it unless you plug it into the computer. by reset i mean start from the beginning of the list automatically - you have to |<< or >>| to the beginning. dumbness. you'd think, hey, when the manual says 'this is how you reset it', it would actually do what it says, but apple support begs to differ. actually they don't - when i called em they agreed with me, that it should be a feature. thanks guys. useful.

anyway, barring that, it's a nice little device, good for work where i can't stream audio in. having less songs available (i've packed 135 on so far) = foreknowledge that i should listen to more of every song - which = maybe my attention span returning to normal human levels.

no screen really does = no problem for me too. ask tony about our 'name that tune' contests back at the compound, where he'd fire up the entire collection on praxis (37GB) - i generally know a song from my stuff within a second. so for freaks like me not having a screen is okay. it's not totally absent any communication with humans - there is a little light that blinks intuitively for different events.

so help me pick a 'skin' for it here at ipodstyles, assuming i keep it - which one do you think i should get?

so may just got even more ridiculous by an added 75% - new weezer disc make believe drops may 10th. gorgeous. i just heard the track on ethel (stabwalt's nightly show makes that channel worthwhile), and it's typical weezer + 30% more fun. which of course = amazingness, par for the course for arguably the most innovative, brilliant rock band in human history.

update: i just realized that the lyrics to mr. big's to be with you fit eerily well with this weezer track. you can listen to it at their site, linked above..

listening to: weezer - beverly hills
