you have got to try pandora, a music recommendation / streaming audio service. give it a song or the name of a band you enjoy and it'll create a radio station with similar stuff.
i gave it jimmy eat world's pain, biggie's what's beef? and fsf's the sound. i've discovered the posies (crosby+stills+nash mixed with some stabbing westward and urge overkill) and the orange peels (picture ben folds lead-singing for the gin blossoms).
it's not perfect... it kind of classifies all hard rock as one genre (it doesn't differentiate between a weezer-esque band and a hardcore POD-type style). and i'm not sure how well it will handle incredibly different genres defined for a single station.
one other thing is that you can't skip more than like six or seven songs in an hour... it makes sense... people with more than a two second attention span will probably be fine :)
let's see what happens when we tell it muskrat love, rhythm is a dancer, boot-scootin' boogie and one night in bangkok. (my prediction: musical hell)
