glad we talked
after a week of eating out it was nice to roll back into the kitchen again. i discovered a store out at rookwood called sur la table, and picked up some new cooking gear. first up was some calzones for dinner:
didn't end up as good as i'd hoped, though - the crust was dry, crumbly, and bland. the filling - ricotta/mozzarella/parmesan, parsley, garlic, and tomatoes - ended up working great, so i just need to work on making better dough, making it softer, thicker, and more flavorful.
renee's cannolis, however, were fantastic.
this kind of put a damper on the day, though - the discoloration is starting, right around the left side of the trackpad button. now at least i know apple will replace the unit if i call 'em about it. they still haven't figured out the wireless problem, they're thinking it's a hardware issue (although it works fine in windows).
i did finish out pearl jam's storytellers today. they did actually veer off of the politics for a bit and talk about the origins of some of their other songs, did a great version of alive... i've always had a slight interest - nothing overwhelming - to see them live. i still regret that i'll never get to see STP or soundgarden play a show, maybe i should get on it while i still can.
Eddie Vedder is on the cover of Rolling Stone. I've always liked Pearl Jam, but I'm with you....I get sick of the constant political diatribe. On R.S. above his picture was a headline for a different article, "Bush Vs. the Gays: The Politics of Fear and Hate." I used to buy Rolling Stone for music reviews, articles about bands....you know music related stuff. Isn't it a music magazine? I can't bring myself to buy it anymore....if I wanted a constant barrage of anti-Bush hate speech....I could watch Farenheit 9/11. Plus they always give crappy records good reviews. You know you are controlled by the record labels when somethink like Pink or 50 Cent gets as many stars as Wilco or Radiohead.
Food looks good.
Yeah, Nick. MTV used to play music once too...
