the late night record shop

watching a wild episode of iron chef america where this dude homaru cantu pwns iron chef morimoto. homie cooked crap with a class-4 laser, served food and sauces in syringes, and stirs beet juice balloons in liquid nitrogen - with his bare hands. sweet!

speaking of food. made some dip for xmas w/my family tonight that worked out pretty well, a tomato/bacon dip:

16oz cream cheese (2 packages)
4oz mascarpone cheese
2 cups cherry tomatoes (~15 of em)
1/3 lb bacon
2 cloves garlic
1 Tblsp fresh basil, chopped
1 Tblsp fresh dill, chopped
1 tsp cayenne pepper

coat tomatoes with extra virgin olive oil (sprinkle w/crushed red pepper also, if you're in that kind of mood), roast in 350 degree oven with garlic for 12 minutes. cook bacon and dry on rack, and finely chop when dried. drop tomatoes and garlic in blender, chop for a few seconds until liquid. combine tomato mixture, bacon, cream cheese, mascarpone, basil, and dill in mixer on low/medium speed. add salt, pepper and cayenne to taste.

speaking of xmas with my family, my cousin will dropped v2 of trivial pursuit pop culture on me - what a great call. so we fired it up - me, my brother, sister, wife, and cousins vs. my mom and dad and aunts and uncles. we started out slow but eventually dominated. the question of the night, from the TV category: "what does elmo lift up to release mr. noodle?" the answer doesn't even matter.

merry christmas to all! and so forth.
